Overdrive not working, help?

I have a '97 Nissan Altima. I just had some repair work done on the car. Now the overdrive doesn't work and neither does the overdrive light come on when I try to activate it by pressing the button on the gear shift.It has automatic transmission. What is wrong and how can the problem be corrected? Thanks.
